They can schedule anything from riding and camping in tents or tepees, trout fishing, driving cattle or branding after roundup, exploring, photography trips, painting or just sitting and reading. Riders spend five days riding the trails the outlaws used when they roamed this area and lived in the cabins at the Hole-In-The-Wall. Riders camp with an authentic chuckwagon each night on the trail.

Along the way, they explore many historic sites such as Old Fort Houck, a stagecoach stop on the Sioux Indian Trail, and the site of the outlaw shootout at Smith Hill. Riders traverse through a magnificent canyon as they approach the actual hideout. And it is an amazing area. The pastures are still green, and the towering rocks a blazing red. The outlaw cabins are gone, but a few foundation stones remain. Riders can have lunch beneath the old cottonwoods and soak their feet in Buffalo Creek, where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid undoubtedly cooled their heels after out-running the posse.
In the evening, the sun paints the red cliffs redder, and then streaks them with purples and blues. Strolling through the pastures, you may see a coyote eyeing a flock of sheep or a bald eagle soaring lazily on an air current. Nearby, a half-mile trail winds upward to the top of the red wall. Another story, an unverified legend, told to me 35 years ago by Ted Fay, a renowned flyfishing guide on the Upper Sacramento River, and several old-timers, is that Jesse James faked his murder, then fled to California and eventually lived in Dunsmuir.
If Jesse James did hide in Dunsmuir, the idea that the Youngers hid contraband on the Ray Ranch near La Honda, as the stories say, gains at least a possibility with the California connection that extends to both the Youngers and James.

The feeling remains, believed by more than two little boys, that the same thing might happen again. The outlaw intrigue of hidden contraband is thus spawned, and at the same time, brought up to date. The road ends at a parking area for 22 cars and trailhead. This is your launch point. For now, mountain bikes are not permitted.
The trailhead elevation is about feet.

The trip starts on a ranch road where you climb a short ridge and then drop down to Harrington Creek. A bridge with new redwood railings crosses the creek and is edged by riparian woodlands. In periods of sustained rains, this little creek can go from a trickle to a torrent. You then emerge from the ravine, and climb about feet to a ridge at 1, feet with a view of the valley and glimpse of the ocean.
For now, this is the pay-off view. If you do the entire route, it makes for an 8. The long-range hope is that the park will be connected to other neighboring parks on Skyline. Uneven terrain. Some obstacles such as rocks or roots present.
