This series is so important to me and I love it so much, but this is the end and as much as that makes me sad, I'm also glad that it ended with Beyond the Night.

It's closure, it's answered questions, and it wraps the series up nicely. And sure, you can get away with j Wow. And sure, you can get away with just reading The Darkest Minds, Never Fade , and In the Afterlight , but these "inbetweener" books add so much. There's a lot of questions about the world answered in these books, and a lot of other characters are explored. It's not like they each are a retelling of the three main books but from other character's perspectives, these are actual, individual characters narrating events as they happen.

Also, be prepared to cry. Grab those tissues. Shut the door to your room and cry your eyes out. Happy or sad tears, it doesn't matter, anything is possible! I really wish I had more to say, or, more accurately, I wish I knew how to put my love into words. These characters are like family to me and I know that sounds so cheesy, but honestly they light up my day.

Chubs and Vida are so funny, Liam and Ruby are just giant sweethearts, and Sam and Lucas have quickly earned their place on my list of favorite characters. Mia, of course, is not left out, as well as Zu. They're all so perfect and I want to make sure that my review is good and solid because this is the last book! Is there an emoji for bawling my eyes out? Five hundred stars out of five, and let me just say that I'm trying really hard to think of books that are similar to these, but I can't. The Darkest Minds is pretty much the book I base everything off of.

I'm sorry, usually this is where I put, "If you liked [specific book], you'll like Through the Dark and the rest of the series," but I honestly can't think of a single book. Oct 15, N Yen rated it it was amazing Shelves: moved-me , best-male-leads , best-female-leads , developed-characters , anticipates , sobering.

The last one. Beyond The Night. Apr 06, Natalie rated it it was amazing. I cried so much reading these novellas. So much. The Darkest Minds is my absolute favorite series that holds so many dear emotions close to my heart, so reading about my favorite people again and the people around them just tore me apart. I laughed, I criiiiiied, and I just thoroughly enjoyed this. Words can't describe my love for these characters and their story, so just go and read it. Nov 15, Kirstysbookishworld rated it really liked it Shelves: 4-star-rating.

This broke my heart. Repaired it and then broke it again! That last story with Sam and Ruby and urg my heart cannot take it. My only Criticism is that it was very blocked writing. Almost always inner dialogue without any actually dialogue so it did make these stories almost feel longer than the series!

Oct 16, Chesca rated it it was amazing Shelves: read-in , science-fiction , 5-stars , dystopia , young-adult , alexandra-bracken , owned-books , novellas-and-short-stories , gorgeous-writing , favorites. This collection is genius! In this book, we get to see different areas of struggles for different people in the world of The Darkest Minds.

In Time I think In Time is really short. It focuses on the life of Gabe, a young man who aspires to be a skip-tracer, who met Zu, a yellow, along his w Through The Dark: A Darkest Minds Collection is the compilation of all the three novellas of The Darkest Minds series. It focuses on the life of Gabe, a young man who aspires to be a skip-tracer, who met Zu, a yellow, along his way to search for kids to turn in. What I can say was that Gabe is one of those characters that you would want to be in the main series.

It would have been good to see him with a greater purpose. So, I think this novella was too short for such a good character as him. When I was reading this one, I was panicking inside. I was so excited for the two of them! How could two simple sentences make someone cry??? Those were everything! It was the bomb to my emotions! Beyond the Night Thank you so much, Alexandra Bracken, for this! Please take note that you should have read Sparks Rise and In the Afterlight before proceeding to this one. This story serves two purposes: a continuation of Sparks Rise and a fuller epilogue of In the Afterlight It is a must-read!

Through the Darkness (Duskcd) | Dusktone

Beyond the Night is set after the story of In the AfterLight. It focuses on what happened after the camps were taken down. I love it so much because it has more of a closure for me. What to expect: 1. Cars 2.

directed by Leslie Kincaid Burby

Fairytales 3. Some burning 5. In here, we get to see the start of a progress of helping the Reds recover. Although we get to see new hope for the Reds in this story, I think another novella or full-length novel that tackles this problem would be really good. A view spoiler [ HEA hide spoiler ] So, to sum this review up, all I can say is that you have to buy a copy of this bundle of good stuff and read it! Oct 27, Alise Readers in Wonderland rated it really liked it.

I'm giving away a copy of this book over at my blog! This collection of novellas made me realize how much I missed her writing style and how easy it is to slip into the worlds she creates. It also added some humor, which I loved! The same goes for the rest of the novellas. But I love it. The cruelty Sam experienced was especially hard to read, the kids in these camps face both mental and physical pain and it made me want to gather them all together and make sure nothing ever happened to them.

Hell is being helpless to protect the people you care about the most, and save them from themselves. Overall, I think this series of novellas really adds something to the story of these characters and the world they live in and would recommend adding it to your collection. Aug 24, Chelsea added it. I read them very rarely, but I enjoy a novella bind up every once in a while. I do really love the world created within those books, and I think Bracken did a fantastic job exploring this brutal dystopian world through short stories.

I think I have a soft spot for this sort of story with the guy thrust into the role of reluctant caretaker of a child who he stubbornly tries to hate but ends up loving at the end. This novella was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. The atmosphere was tense and felt very dystopian. I did like the ending though. I liked Mia and getting to know Sam more, but honestly once all of the old characters turned up they just stole the show. I enjoyed this follow up although I would have preferred a follow up from the POV of the original characters.

Overall I would say this bind-up is well worth a read for fans of the series! Yes, it's happiness on my face, can't you tell? Jul 22, Allison rated it it was amazing Shelves: short-stories , ya-fantasy. The fact that this book is about side or unknown characters does nothing to diminish it. Alexandra Bracken manages to make you fall in love with these characters and then proceeds to rip your heart out over them.

Great extension of the series! Jun 01, Marcella marked it as to-read.

Another novella whoop whoop! And can I say this novella was very necessary! There were a lot of loose ties in In The Afterlight and this was one of them being tied up in a hopefully pretty bow. Beautiful ending - a real epilogue that follows the story just beyond where In the Afterlight concluded. I feel like I can leave the characters and this world and they'll be ok.
