Once he did come, the Law's purpose was fulfilled, and it became obsolete. It was not destroyed, but superseded by a higher law, the law of the Gospel. This should be considered additive to what Mason Wheeler said. He beat me to that part of it, and his answer was good, but I think it can be expanded on just a little bit more to bring it into focus and clear up all doubt. The Law of Love Matthew in the New Testament actually fulfills all of the points of the Old testament law, it does not do away with them.

If you love God, you will not have any other gods before Him, you won't take his name in vain, you will keep his Sabbath, etc. If you love your neighbor, you won't lie, cheat, steal, covet, etc. For a more thorough explanation of these views, who supports them and on what basis, see my answer on: Do we have to obey the laws of the bible? If so, what laws? The new covenant throws out the baby with the bathwater. That's why it's new. It throws out the ten commandments and it throws out the rest of the law also.

The new covenant completely overrides and does away with the old. It was never given to the Gentiles. You have all read your bibles. You know that not only is salvation by grace, but we live the Christian life by grace. We do not live it by works, or by any law. We are free from the law. I think it pertinent to quote more from Matthew 5 because it in essence answer the question. I have added emphasis where it comes applicable to the answer. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.

It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. Are not even the tax collectors doing that? Do not even pagans do that? It becomes clear in these passages that Jesus Law did not override the Old Testament, but in fact where just like clarifications or additions. Amendments if you will. Christ did not simply do away with the law, he ended or fulfilled it. Jesus is the substance of the shadows, the anti type of the types, and the very epitome of all the moral enunciation of the law.

Jesus said, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill" Matt.

If Your Belief Has No Foundation In The Old Testament

Closely related to that is the point that the Old Testament validates the New Testament. A meaning derived from the new testament therefore is not valid unless it is backed by proof from the old testament. My favorite way to compare both old and new testament is to say:. The new testament was first revealed to the prophets, though not plainly revealed 1 Peter This contradicts much of new covenant beliefs of modern denominational religion.

The idea is old covenant is done away with so we only deal with new covenant. Big mistake! We will see the error of this thinking if we look at a summary of what the bible is about. The Bible is one complete document that works harmoniously together to guide us along the path of truth. It is not a disjointed old and new book. It is one book. He heralded this redeemer through the prophets. The Prophets : The prophets spoke specifically of many things to come, but they could not pinpoint how it would be revealed. It was a mystery to them 1 Pet , but now revealed to us through the Messiah and his Apostles in the New Testament 1 Pet , Eph , Col At the same time, he would also save Gentiles strangers who join themselves to Israel Isa , See Zec , Zec Now if that is not what you understand from the Bible, then you need to go find your new covenant beliefs in the old testament.

There is nothing in this new covenant that was not heralded or hidden in the old covenant. Therefore, if I have a belief in my new testament reading of the bible that matches nothing in the old testament, then it is a flawed understanding.

How do Christians reconcile striking errors in the New Testament? Rabbi Tovia Singer responds

In the summary of the Bible above, there is an example of flawed beliefs by various religions. Here is the quote:. Many Christians will tell you the Messiah is coming back for Christians. However, that is not what the Bible says. He was promised to gather Israel and Yahudah along with Gentiles Isaiah In the new testament, he referred to them as the lost sheep of the house of Israel Mat , Mat Gentiles came next.

Israel first, Gentiles next Mat Now Israel who believe in Messiah go by different names. Some may call themselves Christians. The vast majority call themselves Messianic Jews or simply Messianics. There are other followers of the Mashiach such as Hebrew Israelites, Natsarims or even those like me, who prefer no label.

Which of the hundreds of Old Testament laws are applicable to us as Christians?

I merely refer to myself as a disciple of the Yahushua HaMashiach. Bear in mind, that he came to make disciples John , he did not come to start a religion. Bear in mind also that some of these groups walk in obedience to the biblical Messiah. Jehovah Witnesses have told me that they are the chosen ones. Where is the prophecy that he will not be coming for Israel and Yahudah, to join them together in one Isa as they were before the sin of Jeroboam 1 Kings ? On the other hand, some extremist Hebrew Israelites postulate that the Messiah will only be coming for Israel, no Gentiles.

Do you see the two extremes? These are errors caused by not sticking to old testament prophecy. To be more exact, not sticking to the interpretations of the old testament prophecies by the Messiah and his Apostles as laid out in the new testament. Where in the old testament did it prophecy that the law would be done with?

So by ignoring this rule, that the old testament validates the new testament, we have millions of people following a false Messiah. The false Messiah heralds that he law is done away with.
