Living in peace is about living harmoniously with yourself, others, and all sentient beings around you. Living in peace is both an outward and an inward process. Inwardly, we all need to search our hearts and minds and understand the fear that causes the impulse for violence.
The quest for peace and justice
In continuing to ignore the rage within, the storm outside will never subside. While you will find your own meaning of a peaceful existence according to your beliefs and lifestyle, there are some basics that cannot be overlooked. Here are the steps which can help you to discover your journey towards living in peace. Ceasing to seek power over people and outcomes in your life is the first major step to living peacefully.
Trying to control people is about seeking to impose your will and reality on others without stopping to see their side of things. A controlling approach to relationships will keep you in conflicts with others. Replacing a will to control with a broad approach of loving others instead, including their faults and differences, is the way to a peaceful life.
At least once a day spend ten minutes in a peaceful place, such as under a shady tree or in the park, anywhere where you can sit quietly without distractions. Trying to fill your life with possessions or improving yourself by social climbing without stopping to value your inner worth will leave you perpetually unhappy.
Turn off the TV and computer. Get out into nature if possible, or go for a good, long walk. Put on some soft music or turn down the lights. When you feel calm again, get up and go on with your life. Thinking in absolutes and holding to opinions without considering the viewpoints of others is a sure way to live a life without peace. This type of extremist thinking usually leads to reactive, hasty, and driven behavior that lacks the benefit of reflection.
This approach can easily lead you into conflict when other people fail to agree with your convictions.
Remain open-minded and ready to review your understanding. Tolerance in all that you think and do will make a difference in your life and in the lives of others around you.

Tolerance for others is about appreciating diversity, the plurality of modern society, and being willing to live and let others live too. A peaceful person does not use violence against another person or animal that includes small obnoxious insects too. While there is much violence in this world, make a choice to not let death and killing be a part of your philosophy of living. The scale and complexity of the challenges facing societies affected by conflict means narrow approaches that prioritise one over the other will miss the mark.
We need to find creative ways of integrating efforts to prevent conflict withthe promotion of human rights, justice and the rule of law.
Too often, justice is taken to mean improving and implementing laws. As a result, actions tend to focus on increasing the capacity of law institutions, such as the police and courts, to improve access to justice. But while the fairness of justice systems, formal or informal, should remain a common preoccupation, we also need to tackle the much larger question of how to build more just societies. Justice is not something that is merely dispensed through courts and the police.
Instead, it is experienced either positively or negatively through the quality of opportunities, relationships, transactions and behaviours right across society. We know that poverty, insecurity and injustice are man-made consequences of unfair policies and practices.

We know that states can fail because, among other things, their policies exclude people from decision-making and access to resources — and this often fuels insecurity and violence. We also know that poorly conceived economic investment can contribute to patterns of horizontal inequality , environmental degradation and bad governance — all of which make conflict more likely.
So this reality needs to be changed. In some contexts, justice institutions actively uphold laws, power structures and norms that entrench inequality and threaten peace. This news article explained what happened the previous day and what the students were doing as well as the National Guard. The article left the question of why, as so many Americans were thinking as well.
The United States seemed divided and this caused violence. This document does not only show what war does to people, but it also goes to show how big of a conflict we were having on our own soil that needed to be figured out. These shootings started happening all throughout the United States around many colleges and universities, and because of this educational institutions had to be shut down for numerous days.
The document explains how the students formed around the National Guard and were throwing rocks and chanting vulgar and disrespectful things. The National Guard tried keeping things under control but when their life seemed to be threatened, which was said to be, they had no other choice then to shoot.
This caused great controversy with people going against the National Guard and then many going against the students.
