This folly is the perfect playground
Sort order. What a delight! I thought this was a fresh, thoughtful, entertaining and inspiring look at life and lifestyle in the 18th Century. And the first line - WOW - what a great way to start a book! This is the first non-paranormal historical romance that I have read in quite some time and it was such a unique book I am glad I took the chance.
Katherine is our female MC and we meet her for the first time in a wonderfully exciting way! She is a woman of some means who enjoys a very intriguing and unusual What a delight! She is a woman of some means who enjoys a very intriguing and unusual lifestyle for a single woman in the 18th Century.
A Gentleman's Folly
Charles is our male MC. He is a man of some means, waiting on an inheritance, who leads a very normal, hell-raising lifestyle for a single male rake in the 18th Century.
Circumstances beyond both their control, but obviously the hand of fate, brings these two together in a marriage of convenience. These two independent people tread very carefully as they negotiate the time frame and terms of this marriage but finally a bargain is struck. Once they are wed they head directly for the estate of the elderly relative that Charles dances attendance upon so that he shall inherit both it and the family business. It is during this time that they spend together as a family that Charles and Kitty learn to like and respect each other, having barely known each other when they wed.

The tale she weaves, of "love, betrayal and hope for happiness" as well as "bargains made and promises broken" is truly a wonderful read. As a friend "shelved" it on Goodreads this is indeed good quality "regency smut"! For those who don't follow the author on Twitter DaisyBanks12 or her blog, over the month of September she had blogged everyday on a different subject concerning life and lifestyle in the 18th Century, both for men and women. She also compared lifestyle and expectations between the classes of 18th Century society.
She did this in anticipation of this release and to create a background of knowledge for the reader. I certainly enjoyed the information and learned a lot. I recognized some of the scenes and places she blogged about as I read and I even recognized some names of people. I would certainly encourage any reader to seek out and skim this information as it really does add to the experience of the book.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Oct 02, Rosie Amber rated it really liked it. This review is based on an ARC given to me by the author. A Gentleman's Folly is set around the late 18th Century and is a romance which plunges the reader straight in to a ritual dalliance.
The story then moves on to follow the life of Katherine as she believes she makes the best choices for herself under the circumstances. The characters were well written and the unfolding story was a pleasure to read. Charles was a genuine delight to read about as he matured in to his role and lost most of his youthful high spirits. I enjoyed reading about the masked ball near the end of the book, with some fun guests.
